Righto! So this here is my formal discussion of my platform/reasons for putting my name forward for the Speaker position in our beloved Continental Union.
I'm G-Tech and I'm THE candidate for Speaker in our Regional Assembly. My candidacy is backed by the fine illustrious upstanding individuals over in the Progressive Conservatives, and a fair number of private citizens who recognize my candidacy as the way forward for the Continental Union. I've only been here for three months, but we got the RA open in that time, repealed an obstreperous part of our Constitution, and generally got some important parts of our political process moving again!
Now, I can't say I was totally (or even largely) responsible for that, but if elected as your Speaker I will endeavor to maintain our impetus for vital reforms by being a primary enabler of political discourse and the functioning of the Assembly in this region. I know many of you don't know me from a hole in the wall, but I've been on NS for almost three years now, and in that time I've actually been the equivalent of our Speaker in another region. I have experience, I have ideas, I have activity, and I will now take any questions.
Thank you for your time ladies and gentlemen, Vote G-Tech and the way forward!

"Obstreperous?" That's a pretty groovy two-dollar word!

What is your first course of business if you are elected and why is it important. And...*stirring the pot a little* what happened to your nation in the CU?

I have a question for G-Tech...
Why do you think that you will be a better speaker than Marzano (or other candidates)?

That's a bit general but, OK, I'd like to know too.

I as the representative of the Progressive Conservatives and all its members wholly support G-Tech in his candidacy. We base this on several factors which G-Tech touched on, as well as the fact that he is far more active and experienced then Marzano.
Annnnnnnd woot G-Tech!

Hahah thanks for the biased support TRE, it's appreciated @ Marzano: My first order of business if I become your Speaker is to get the ball rolling on the refurbishment of our dear Constitution now that the region can create an amendment protocol. Such a protocol is, I believe, vital to the continued vibrancy of our legal framework of the region, and therefore it's inception is a matter of first priority to me. About my nation in the region... It's there, if you check. My puppets occasionally don't get checked in on often, and so they CTE, but a simple revive took care of that. I'm in this region at all times even if my nation occasionally takes a vacation to Lazarus. @ Letor: I cannot speak to Marzano's record before the start of my stint here (obviously), but from my time in the region I have observed that activity here tends to follow a lackadaisical pattern, wherein posters show up perhaps once a week and throw in some input. While this is a fine pattern of activity for your average resident, the Speaker must be held to a higher standard to enable the legislative debate and enact legislative procedures in a timely manner. I am highly active here (generally multiple times online in a day), whereas Marzano to my knowledge holds with the laid-back activity style. As evidence I offer the fact that, though my account was established in 2012, and Marzano's in 2010, my post count is already significantly higher than his, a sign of my commitment to our community. And yes, before someone brings it up, I do tend to go inactive in spurts, occasionally for weeks at a time, but I always come back. Furthermore, the majority of these absences are premeditated and self-imposed, and so as your Speaker I would be perfectly capable of appointing a substitute for my office to allow the legislative process to continue apace. I believe such an arrangement to be superior to a Speaker who will only check in weekly, and this myself to be the best candidate for Speaker given the field of my opposition. Hope this answers your questions

Your mention of inactivity ties into what I asked Marzano. And, it kind of puts another question in my head about some other issues unrelated to these special elections. I originally signed on to the region (Continental Alliance) and the forum because of the "no pressure" ideal. My free time is extremely limited and is never at any set times. I like to provide input and be active, but in my case it's not on a regular schedule. Of course you need people with different activity abilities...some that come on a couple times a month (like me) and others who are on several times a week (like you, TRE, Sab, and others). You have to understand that the core members joined because of the laxer rules (if they can be called rules) on posting. We don't want situations where few people are on here...that's not good either. Now, I'm not sure where I'm going with this. OK, so I guess what I want to know is what is your opinion on the participation part of all of this? And, what is your opinion on officially opening a roleplay ministry and have an officer in charge of creating and monitoring these things?

I would like to put my two cents on what Adr stated: Basically in my mind this region is, and always will be a lax region. It will have a few super stars which it needs (Sab, Me, G-Tech, etc) for certain things like the RP Minister and Speaker so that certain things can move along. However along that we also need the valuable people who put a lot of work into the CU and make it what it is, even if they can't get on all the time (Imp, you, and many others). I'll be honest I like posting here, G-Tech has stated the same. But I'll be honest, I don't like to do a lot of work And G-Tech is no doubt pushing himself to take on the position of Speaker for the greater good of the region (he generally likes sticking to RPs and just posting ^_^ ). So what I'm trying to say is, we need both types of people here in the CU. It's what makes this region work. Do we have to choose one over the other? No I don't think we do. For example for the End War RP we discussed as a group (those involved anyways) and decided on a timeframe for the game to run. It was set so that it could accommodate the largest number of people possible. Now you could ask if the day may come when one group (be it the super posters or the great contributors) largely outnumbers the other, what then? And to that I say, we will do what we are doing now ^_^

I can agree too. For any group you need a mix of different people. Being an officer requires more time to post and do other things. I have no problems with doing some detail work, but just like with Exarchos and others school and work keep my time limited.

Also, is it a bad thing to be "lax" or "always lax?" Sometimes it is difficult for me to understand if TRE is being humorous or serious.

He means no malice. And...I have to say I think we're getting a little off track. I think the purpose of these last couple of posts is to ask if the candidate is willing to invest the time. It'll be really critical in the first stages. I'm sure whatever is done by the first speaker will set a precedence for the future.

Sabastos is righto indeed! But, what I'd like to know is what G-Tech thinks is the most important function of the Assembly and how he plans to guide it that direction.

The Constitution part is over extreme importance. I'm all for fixing the parts that effect the Chancellor, the Assembly, and the Judicial branches. And, yah, we need an amendment clause. What I'd like to know is just how much you want to change constitutional law? I've read some posts by a couple people who want to get rid of everything, including parts about the Founder's Council and the Presidium. I remember something TRE said about having a sovereign gives stability to the government and is a double check process for the government. So...what are your plans for constitutional changes?
