Welcome to the
NationStates Region of the Continental Union

The Continental Union was formed on 20 February 2010 by Imperator, Basileus, and Sabastos. All members are in free association with the Region and are encouraged to actively participate in regional administration, roleplaying, and other activities. We are very interested in recruiting a variety of different nations and personalities to add excitement to the Region and continue its growth and development. The Founding Partners wanted to create a region that would encourage the participation of all of its members. In other regions the Founding Partners witnessed a number of issues, dramas, power-plays, and exclusionary tactics that motivated them to create a region without those kinds of discouraging activities. This is a game to be enjoyed by all, not just by a few individuals who dominate the forums and the political direction of the Region. However, this can only be done if members participate.

As a casual viewer or prospective member, you will be comfortable in knowing that regional governance is not dominated by one or two individuals. As stated in Regional Constitutional Law, the Founder cannot become directly involved in the core politics and legislative processes of the Region. The Prerogative or Reserve Powers assigned to the Founder are focussed on the preservation of the Region from "rogue states" or tyrranical regional leaders that intend to take over the Region or guide it on a path of eventual distruction alienating members in the process. The Region's activities are guided by a consensus of all members.

Aside from the obvious requirement that each member be respectful and courteous toward other members, there are no controlling or restrictive regulations in place (nor will there ever be) that would stiffle members, take the fun out of the game, or diminish any member's ability or willingness to contribute ideas and participate. For those interested in economy roleplay, we are in the process of creating a forum exclusively dedicated to this kind of roleplay genre. It is currently in the set-up stages, but it will prove to be a very interesting and exciting roleplay.

We are currently seeking members who will also contribute to the creation and implementation of Regional Constitutional Law that will be used as a basis for regional administration. Unlike other regions, there are no restrictive participation requirements, as many of us have very busy real life schedules and cannot always be on the forums all the time. We understand that challenge and will create an environment that encourages participation without insisting that members go online four or five times a week to avoid being considered inactive. We encourage your suggestions, ideas, and creative thoughts on how to make this Region an exciting place to be. Although membership is highly recommended, you don't have to register now to reply and contribute ideas. Guests can post replies in the Guestbook without having to register.
