The Continental Union is a NationStates Region created on 20 February 2010. It was founded by Imperator, Sovereign Grand Master of the Imperial Crown Knights, together with Basileus of Byzantium Romanum and Sabastos of the Teutonic Alliance. The Region was created as the result of these three individuals' experiences in other NationStates regions that were discouraging and unrewarding.
These Founding Partners wanted to build and develop a region that would offer something to every type of NationStates player. Some activities will focus on politics and administration, while others will focus on roleplay and other gaming options. The Continental Union as a consolidated region consists of the Continental Union proper and the Continental Alliance, a parallel roleplay region founded by Imperator Rex and Basileus Romanus.

Yes, we have more to post. I was assigned the task to do but I have been out of town on business for the last two weeks. Sabastos put this here as a test. I have some points to add still.

Good! Also I would like to suggest that there is an on going history write-up on the region. Just a history of major comings and goings so that new members can read up on where the region came from, and read how it developed.

I beleive that we will have a couple of topic thread that will deal with different aspects. One is an overview and then we can have another for current events that we can continue to add on. Do not worry, I have some materials. I need to send them to Yavaros or Sabastos for proofing.

I understand, it's just something in the GRA that we all wish we had, but none of us could remember correctly enough years later to write. Better to get it all out there before its gone

Oh man! I didn't know we were getting critiqued on these. I gotta write one for the Alliance. Man, I guess I'll have to have it tits tight before I post it.

I take offense to that! I'm not sure why, but I feel it is appropriate!

TRE makes a good point... at the time stuff doesn't seem THAT important, but looking back its easy to forget this and that debate and this and that crazed commie member ranting. A running history would be seriously boss.
And what's this about the Continental Alliance being a "parallel" roleplaying region? Anyone care to enlighten me?

"Parallel Region" refers to the fact that (originally) it was set up as a roleplay region that was connected to the Continental Union. When we first rolled out the Continental Exchange and the Regional Economy RPG's on our old forum, nations in the CU would create a puppet in the CA to use that nation's stats to create economy roleplay scenarios. It was (and kinda-sorta still is) a parellel region in the sense that nations created in the CA were extensions of the nations in the CU. It's kind of confusing to explain, but that's how I see it.

It's interesting, we (by which I mean myself and several others) did that sort of roleplay back in the day. Basically just ran out nations as we saw fit and roleplayed being them. Did research, military actions, and so on. Worked out great till I hit the several trillion dollar defense budget and was funneling that and hundreds of billions of dollars of commerce subsidies into an intergalactic Empire spanning dozens of planets and star systems. Was pretty awesome until people dropped out and new ones came in. It's shocking how great of a gap there is between new and old nations I wouldn't mind doing that sort of RP again....

Once they decide what to do with it, that is what we will do again. I think TRE asked a question a while back about a post mentioning "National Assets" that were used to "fund" purchasing business and so on. The "National Assets" would come from the nations created in the Alliance. Now, we have six or seven nations of the 18 or 19 there now that came in on their own and have nothing to do with Continental Union members.
Since the Continental Alliance independence in March, Alliance members have their main nation in the Alliance and a puppet in the CU...the opposite of what they were doing in the alliance before. Because the CA is its own deal with its own administration, it technically is no longer a "parellel region" because it has its own identitity separate from the CU. I remember in the GRA you (TRE) and I participated in an RP that required players to create a brand new nation so there would be an even playing field for everyone. I never got very far with it because Sab started talking to me about creating our own region...hence the Continental Union.
If people still have trouble understanding the parellel. I work in the paint and coatings industry. We manufacture our own products. We also manufacture products for small mom and pop hardware stores chains. To avoid directly competing with these chains, we take our product lines they want to carry and give them a different name and label. We have a product called "Majestic" and the chains get the same product but labeled as "Master Choice Premium." We call these differently labelled proudcts "parellel fills" because they are filled with the same product even though the label is different. Does that make sense?
