New Port Frutiger: Prime Minister Slayter calls for a ban on endorsements for regional elected positions by C.U.-wide news organizations.
After an endorsement for Acryland to head the C.U.'s Foreign Relations Ministry appeared on a regional news broadcast, the Slayter administration has been under fire from both Liberal Socialists and People's Republic members of parliament. Both parties unanimously call for an investigation into Acryland's own Foreign Relations' minister, Allison Robsyth.
Robsyth and other unnamed members of the Foreign Relations Ministry are accused of violating Federal Acryland law that prohibits political advertising.
When reached for questioning, PM Slayter had a measured response.
"There is no evidence that Allison in any way acted to promote Acryland on an international stage. To prevent this issue from arising again, I am calling on a regional ban on endorsements by regional news media."
The PM's request for legislation does not prohibit political advertising, but rather 'freebie' endorsements by media outlets.
"Don't get me wrong, all of Acryland is honored to potentially represent the C.U. to the larger international community. However, I think I can speak for all Acrylanders when I say that we want this to be a fair and open election. If there are other nominees they should have an equal opportunity to be endorsed. But I think the C.U. can see our clear ability and desire to head this Ministry," Slayter finished.
Slayter delivered his request for regional legislation to the C.U. general assembly later that day.
If elected to the position of C.U. Foreign Relations Minister, Robsyth would act as Acryland's representative and become the Foreign Relations Minister for the entire C.U.
Hearings to determine the role of Robsyth and other Foreign Relations Ministry staff is set to begin this upcoming week.
